Monday

Most of us were involved in VBS activities at a park on Monday. We began by playing games with the big parachute. Travis and Linda took turns telling Bible Stories. We had a couple of puppet skit, some songs, a craft, and some games.

During the morning session we had a little over 100 children attending, not including many younger children who were playing nearby. In the afternoon we had about 50.

In the evening, we had meetings with the women of the church and with the children's workers. I attended the children's workers meeting. It started off a little slow and very tentative. We didn't want to offend them by offering too many suggestions (and they have great programs anyway) and they didn't want to seem greedy by asking for things. After a few funny translation issues, the mood lightened and we all had a fun time. They have great ideas, but lack materials to make them happen.

They would also like to duplicate what we have been doing in the park with VBS and feel that God has sent us as an example and training for them in this. The whole idea of community based VBS was new to them. That was very encouraging to us.

The weather: It was hotter especially in the afternoon, probably around 85F, but sunny.

What we ate:
- Breakfast: Cereal w/milk, yogurt, ham&cheese, coffee
-Lunch: Chicken soup, coleslaw, BBQ chicken, french fries, ice cream (yum)
-Dinner: Cucumber salad, pork roast, a rice dish like risotto, peaches

What we learned:
- Children's ministers are fun. Jelu (just guessing on the spelling) their childrens minister is a hoot! When we met all their staff for the first time, we all picked him out immediately as the children's guy- he just looked fun and happy. He and Travis are having fun together.
-Will's friend from Timisoara told us stories about what things were like in Romania before the revolution- makes us greatful for life in America and in Romania now.

How to pray:
Pray that the children return for VBS this morning. Pray for our continued health and energy. Pray that we are able to work effectively in the heat (it's supposed to be hotter today). Pray for the meetings tonight with the women and children's workers.

Schedule for Tuesday:
Breakfast at apartment for us. 9:00 a.m. for team staying somewhere else.
10:00-12:30 p.m. VBS in park
1:00 p.m.- lunch
3:00-5:00 p.m.- VBS in park
6:00 p.m. dinner
7:00-9:00 p.m.- Meetings
